Abstract |
This study aims to develop evidence-based clinical imaging guidelines for protecting patients from potential exposure to radiation and using the limited healthcare resources to referral or decision-making in clinical setting.
A collaboration system was established, Korean Society of Radiology (KSR) worked as clinical radiation expertise and the National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency (NECA) supported as methodology part. In addition, for effective management, a multidisciplinary guideline development committee, working group composed of radiology experts and consensus group from end-user clinicians.
Adaptation methodology was the main development method but if there are no appropriate guidelines then we considered de novo development. The guideline process composed 8 steps; 1) Defining key questions, 2) Search for guidelines, 3) Selection of searched, 4) Quality appraisal of the guidelines, 5) Grading the level of evidence and drafting the recommendation document, 6) Agreement of the recommendation grades, 7) Finalizing the recommendation document and 8) External Review and approval of clinical guidelines.
Finally, 26 key questions and 63 recommendations were developed. Many experts composed of end-users, methodological experts and radiologists reviewed key questions and draft of recommendations. A conference was held for expert review from patients and customers, stakeholders.
